Be Positive

"No pessimists ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit."
- Helen Keller

The words above are so true. They have sustained mankind in many trials and tribulations. Having a positive attitude helps us to overcome obstacles and continue on our path to reach our goals. Although there have been times, and are times, when something gets the best of us. It is positive perserverance that takes the helm.

I knew a woman, Michele, who was sight challenged. This did not stop her, as she was extremely accomplished in her lifetime. Because of her positive attitude, she achieved her Master's degree in French Literature, and worked as a Director of Public Affairs at the Seeing Eye: an organization for the placement of guide dogs for the sight challenged population.

Her positive determination taught her to walk tall and raise her face without fear, to the sun, wind and rain. Her optimism was a strong force within her world. And she was able to help people, young and old. I think this is what Helen Keller meant: having a positive human spirit, is the only way to live.

  1. A little voice whispered to exude positivity and feel the goodness from putting forth positive energy. It does help to deflect any sort of negativity from crawling in to my space! :)
I shall go forth and "be positive!"

  5. I think we have a string linking us today. I wrote a draft for a post on optimism, this was usurped by my current post. I am glad we think alike, more positive people in this world lift us.

  10. This is a wonderful post Kathy & a great reminder of how much there is to be thankful for in our world. It's much easier to think positively & believe that grace & goodness abound than to think of our society as a dark place full of struggle & pain.

    Have a happy day :o)

  13. My mother-in-law always says, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." She was talking about the things we say (or don't say) about other people. But I think it's true in all situations, and it begins with the words we speak to (and about) ourselves. When we start there, the rest of the world looks so much better.

  15. Did you know that it's almost Helen Keller's birthday? I live near Tuscumbia, Alabama, where Keller's birthplace, Ivy Green, is. Her birthday is June 27, and all week Tuscumbia is honoring her with the annual Helen Keller Festival. One of the most moving experiences you can imagine is to watch a performance of The Miracle Worker outdoors on the Ivy Green grounds where the story actually took place. http://www.helenkellerbirthplace.org/ Thanks for letting me have space for a local commercial!

  17. Very well said. I would much rather see the positives than the negatives of situations and of people. Being positive is crucial to being happy, in my opinion.
