Riding along

There is a 90% chance of rain today. I wish I had this woman's elegance as I ride along on my bicycle. Once I was riding home from work in the days when I sometimes rode to and from work on my bicycle. There was a surprise rain storm, and there I was, with the rear wheel spewing rain on my back. I wouldn't have minded it so much if I was on a less travelled road, but it was a fairly busy one, and the cars were abit mindless about splashing me. Oh well, I live to tell this story. Luckily, there were soft terry towels at home to soothe my body and soul.

Another time we were living in an August heat wave. I stood outside while it was pouring, and let the rain pour down on me. It was soul refreshing and I was elated beyond what I thought I would be. That was when I didn't want or need an umbrella. Ever have a similar experience?

  1. Ha-lots of humor out and about this morning. I do love walking in the rain. It's not bad if prepared-but a sudden down-pour can catch us off guard. I can see you standing in the rain cooling yourself-while lots of purple flowers have a good sprinkle.

  2. We've all got rain stories now here in Alabama after what seems like a Biblical 40 days and 40 nights of rain -- but I never look this good in a downpour.

  5. Beautiful image and I just love a good rain. I often go on my porch or take the umbrella out for a walk.

  6. I regularly run in the rain (otherwise I wouldn't get any exercise in the winter!) and I absolutely love it. Great image.

  7. I got caught in a downpour and was SOAKED when I left work in downtown Phila. I hadn't rained anywhere else and people stared at me and the puddle that dripped all around me on the train and then the trolley on the way home!

  8. We hardly ever get rain in California. Seriously, we had one day of it a couple of days ago and everyone was giddy! We might get 1 or 2 days in the winter, and 3-4 days in Spring. I don't know how things grow here. Anyhoo, whenever it rains I make the kids put on their rain gear and we all go out to ride the puddles...during the storm, after the storm. We come home wet and black with mud and soooooooooo happy. Running in the rain is my other pastime. Makes me feel like I'm 8 again. Holly at lifelaughlatte.blogspot.com

  10. There is a famous quote that goes something like this "don't wait for the sun to come out, dance in the rain" I must find that quote.
My Mother would send us out in the rain like the children on the Morton Salt box and we would pretend we lived in a castle with a moat and dragons were slain. We would come in, Mother would be ever so happy that our cheeks were full of color and cinnamon toast would be our snack, fit for all the palace, 7 of us!!

  11. When it rains, we all go out for a walk (depending on the amount of rain falling we don't use an umbrella). The kids love it! Have a nice weekend, XXX, Carmie.

  12. I have a confession... I can't ride a bike. Never got around to it after my tricycle.

As for downpouring, I once got caught in one for nearly an hour with my school best friend. Our uniforms looked like a blue oil spill, never forgot that day. As for pleasure rain, I would LOVE to experience that as rain is beautiful to me (an odd thing for a Londoner).

  14. I was reading some of the comments to your lovely post and read the quote pvc wrote about. That's how I feel when it rains and I am able to enjoy it. It's only a certain kind of rain, the soft, spring rain because for some reason other rain storms make all of my bones ache terribly. But I love a soft spring rain, love to walk in it, splash in the little puddles, watch rain drops fall on and roll off flower petals. Sometimes I find myself humming that song "The Pina Colada Son" most people know well!
