Flowers during Autumn season

Well, Autumn is upon us, and although I love this season, I get abit sentimental, when we have to pull out the colorful annuals, and cut back the perennials. The garden looks almost naked to the human eye. However, that is the changing season. My Grandmother use to have a saying "when the trees undress, we dress, and when the trees dress, we undress." Such a true quote; Thank you Grandma! She was always a very wise woman.

Below are a few photos of what is left in our garden that will stay around for a few more weeks. Then we will cut back, and it's bed time through the winter. I like the Autumn garden; it mixes well with the mulch, and the beautiful color leaves that decide to drop down, and mix into the garden. Do you like an Autumn garden?

Provence Lavender

Succulent Sedum that is a beautiful persimmons color

  1. I too find that in the garden clean up, things look naked.
I look forward to blanket of white, followed by flowering trees.

  3. Glad that you are meeting autumn so kindly. I adore that quote, in fact you told me it on the first comment you ever left all those months ago I think, "Richmond Park", so charming :) gosh, how time flies.

  5. My flower beds look naked, too. I also miss my lovely hanging baskets of annuals. I wish I could say the brightly colored leaves on the trees make it all worth it, but I'd truly rather have the flowers.

  7. Your comments and photos are so beautiful.
Seeing the summer blossoms go is sort of like saying goodbye to a friend that you know you will not see for a while. I do look forward to the little pansy faces though. You sedum is spectacular. I must try to find that persimmon color.

  8. It seems strange that as your garden is just winding down, mine is just beginning to blossom. I have just planted all my summer herbs for barbeques at the beach!

  10. I like the way the garden looks all sort of undressed. I think it may have something to do with all of those years I was a gardener- this meant a little lull and time to plan for next spring. Then there's the raking, etc. but it sure helps in the spring. Your photos are lovely.

  15. I love that quote of your Grandma's, so simple and true.
The flowers left in your garden, although not as vibrant in color or bountiful as the spring and summer ones are beautiful in their simplicity and in how strong and resilient they are, unwilling to give in to the cold weather and the fading sun. The colors are lovely, a little more subtle, but warm and comforting.

Thank you so much for sharing your garden. I always look forward to the beauty and nature that is synonymous with your blog.

  19. Oooohhh...that sedum is fabulous! I'm looking to add something that will bloom in the fall. I planted Montauk Daisies this year, so we'll see how they do. I eeked a few weeks of blooms out of them, but I'd love something that sticks around a little longer.
