They came, they saw, they conquered

They stopped by sometime in the middle of the night, unannounced. They ate the Virich striped flowers, probably the most delicious ones because of the two tone colors.

They left without a note, just a bunch of stems and leaves. Oh well, I still love Bambi.

  2. When I worked at a garden center, we got so may complaints about this. Deer, raccoons, skunks, gophers-take your pick!!! I can't remember some of the remedies, but ask at your garden center. They 'were' beautiful.

  3. Debra: We were late with using the Liquid Fence. It does NOT hurt the animals, but it emits a scent that they do not like. My perennials have started to pop up nicely (lavenders etc.)so if the Deer want to eat the spring treats, I would like to think I'm sharing. :)

  4. What a treat for the deer! We have the same problem with the rabbits in our yard, they eat everything I plant. I'll have to try the liquid fence and see if it works for us. Thanks for the tip!

  5. I just discovered your blog and have enjoyed browsing through it. I hope you have good luck in keeping the critters from devouring the beautiful blossoms. Sometimes you can plant something else they like that you wouldn't miss!
We have a big garden and it is the woodchucks that dine here!
I also loved reading about Leo! He resembles, Ellie May, one of our 3 cats, who is 16. I am so in love with all of our cats they are so dear to my heart. I'm over at Furry and Feathered Friends and Shells and Roses.
    Best wishes,
    Nan and =^..^=

  6. The flowers were beautiful, but much tastier I see. I remember the first time this happened to me was speechless. On a positive note at least they left you the greens and not a empty pile of dirt. Hugs...xoxo

  7. You are generous, especially considering how long it took to grow. I was riveted by the mystery "Who on earth ate her flowers?" until you revealed it! Btw my post picture today reminded me of you, wonder why ;)

  8. Nan: thank you so much for stopping by. I saw your blog site and your Ellie May looks like the sister to my Leo. The drawings of your birds are beautiful. How fortunate you are to have such talent. I will stop by your other blogsite soon. ~ Kathy

Joyce: Thanks for the humorous comment. You're right; I'm glad they left something on the plate.

Clarity - I'm off to see your site and what you are referring to.

  9. Oh no! I had an entire, gorgeous hyacinth bean plant disappear overnight one year! This was after I patiently watched it climb a lamp post & get ready to bloom. Bad deer, bad!

  10. I have lost MILLIONS over the years to rabbits and deer. I use two products: Deer Scram and Tree Guard.
DS is a granular product we put around the parameters of our property. Tree Guard is a latex (not water) based spray that is one of the bitterest substances available. The deer hate it.

  11. so sad - and so funny (sorry)! You've got to check out the children's book "Muncha Muncha Muncha" - your library probably has it.

  13. Oh, that's so sad.
Last night we nearly ran over two deer running across the road. I'm sure they weren't the ones who ate your lilies!
