A Steuben beauty

My Hubby's parents had the good fortune of collecting many Steuben handblown glassworks in the shapes and forms of animals. Allen and his three siblings each have a sizable collection of their own thanks to their parents, who had excellent taste in art and other collectibles.

Our collection consists of several animals, although the elephant is my favorite. I love the ears and trunk, and everything else about it. I also enjoy holding it in my hands and feeling the weight and quality of the piece. When I look at it, I think of the real animal. I am fascinated by the closeness of their family and how they raise their young. They are a symbol of wisdom in Asian cultures and are famed for their memory and intelligence. I think they are a very interesting mammal.

This elephant is a treasure in our house. The other Steuben animals are all beautiful in their own way, however, my eyes always revert to this elephant.

Do you have a special something in your house that sparkles? (And I don't mean your kitchen floor) ;)

  1. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! What a lovely treasure you have...
Oh, I wish our kitchen floor did sparkle! As I look around our home I think the special something to me that sparkles is the twinkle in our cat's eyes!

  2. The kitchen floor ain't a sparklin'!!
What does sparkle is my cut glass collection. I love the way it catches light.

  3. This is gorgeous! A friend of my grandmother collected elephants and I always think of her when I see something like this. Thank you so much for sharing. What sparkles in my house right now is my bathroom sink after a vigorous cleaning. But I think I'm done now -- the kitchen floors can wait.

  4. My kitchen floor. You so phunny.

On a sunny day and at a certain time in the morning, the light comes through the window above the front door and hits the faux crystal light fixture in the foyer. It then casts a rainbow of light on the stairs. JT and I wrote a story called "The Light on the Stairs" when he was in elementary school for an writing assignment. He will graduate high school next month.

Seeing that light makes me smile.

  5. Well it's definitely NOT my kitchen floor that sparkles, LOL! :-)

I have a collection of vintage seltzer bottles that finally found a home in the shore house kitchen window. I love the way the late day sun dances off of them.
