Art = Beauty = Art

"Dance at Bougival" by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1883)

Recently, my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting the city of Boston, MA. Along the way we stopped at the Museum of Fine Arts. Wow ! The architecture, paintings, sculpture, solarium, windows...the beauty went on and on...and on and on...  One painting in particular won my heart in a special way. It is entitled "Dance at Bougival" (1883) by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. I have admired this painting for a very long time and I was able to see it up close and personal, as its permanent home is in this lovely museum. The way the gentleman tilts his head ever so slightly as he moves into the woman's dance step is key in this painting. I am also of the opinion that Renoir focused on the woman's red bonnet, white dress and the gentleman's hat.
A 16"x20" unframed print of this painting will soon be mailed to me. I will have fun selecting two mats and a frame, so I, too, can have a "Renoir" hanging in my home.   : )

  1. Oh, what a delightful painting, Kathleen. I think dance is an art of its own - two people flowing gracefully to the sound of the music. I have always loved to dance, and it's been awhile. The Museum of Fine Arts sounds like a nice place to visit.

  2. The Boston Museum of Art is amazing, but there is something about seeing a painting up close. Seeing every brush stroke really makes a picture special when you can see the real craft of the artist that you can not see in just a picture.

    I hope that you will share your newly framed "Renoir" in it's new home!

  7. How I miss that museum; we lived in Boston for 11 years and would visit often. There was a fabulous 19th century French painting there that I feel in love with and since then, have tried to find the painter's name on line to no avail. But the glorious collections there!

    Thank you so much for coming by to visit my post! LOVE!
